Initatives

Constant Communion is an initative to help churches grow towards weekly celebration of communion.

Why?

We move toward weekly communion because the Table is not merely a memorial or an optional addition to worship; it is the historic, evangelical-sacramental center of our identity as a people who feed on Christ. By centering our weekly gathering around the bread and cup, we intentionally step out of a consumerist, sermon-centric model and into a formational rhythm where the entire service itself preaches the Gospel, forms our hearts, and anchors our identity in the finished work of Jesus.

How?

Transitioning to weekly communion requires a shift in both theology and logistics, moving away from viewing the Eucharist as a “special event” and toward embracing it as a standard means of grace. This begins by catechizing the congregation—addressing the common fear that “if we do it every week, it will become less special”—and replacing it with the beauty of a habit that grows deeper in meaning through repetition. We integrate this by simplifying our sacramental rubrics, training our leadership in a high view of the elements, and ensuring that our Eucharistic practice is consistently tethered to our commitment to holiness and mission.

The Constant Communion Initiative is a 3-phase process that guides the local church into weekly celebration at the table

1. Stir the Hunger

Build a theological and sacramental vision through preaching, teaching, and small groups—casting the biblical and Wesleyan case for the Table as central. Be having regular conversations with staff, board members and key congregation members as you move towards this vision of regular communion.

2. Taste & See

Introduce biweekly celebrations with intentional variety (e.g., varied liturgies, testimonies) to build familiarity and hunger. Throughout this time start gauging if there is a difference felt between weeks. This is often the case as a church is moving towards more regular celebration of the Table.

3. Constant Communion

Full commitment to weekly Communion as the joyful norm—streamlining logistics with simple setups equipping trained lay teams for seamless distribution, and providing pastoral care that builds confidence, belonging, and lasting hunger for Christ’s Table.
